The figure was that of a lady, wearing a traditional Serenian dress: White, with a short hemline around the bottom. The dress blew around in the wind, showing off her long, natural, fair, legs… Her feet were bare against the grassy hill. Her long black hair blowing around wildly, like it had a life of its own. Her full blue eyes more than complimented her body and she had candy apple red lips that you could almost taste the sweetness from.
The smile on her face itself gave birth to new beauty, under the Serenian moon. It was a perfect night. Not a bird was chirping, all of natures creatures were at rest. Suddenly the orange of the sunset died off as it turned to night, but the light of the moon was more than enough illumination to reflect the woman’s radiant silhouette on to the body of water at the foot of the hill. Anybody that witnessed this would be jaw locked, and you could witness this event every couple of days, because she would come up to the plains, from her town just to seek out this beautiful marvel of nature.
Her beauty was apparent for all to see, and many wanted to succumb to her beauty, but she has eyes for only one man and that was her boyfriend, Caleb, who’s father was one of the Generals in the Serenian Army. His looks were no match to hers, but he was a hero in his own accord. His powers were as great as his fathers sword.
The sword was a great piece of work, made by a Lyration Priest from the other side of the Country. A perfect balance between handle and blade. Accuracy was the swords strongest attribute, followed by the way it swiftly cut through the air, without any obstacles. His father carried the sword around with him wherever he went. It was like a brother to the boy. It even had a name in which Caleb called it, Blaze. It was named this because when it was used, the violence spread like an inferno from the depths bellow.
Caleb was an average sized boy, himself. You automatically knew who he was from the moment you seen his vest. It was a long vest, that touched his knees. It was a traditional robe of Serenia. That robe itself was passed down to him from his ancestors. Truly, Caleb was great a warrior as Serenia ever seen.
At this time Caleb was sitting down against a rock, looking up towards his girlfriend, Amber. The wind still blowing in her hair, but now with less force than it was before. Now amber was holding herself, as she looked up into the night. Caleb stood up from where he was situated previously and took off his vest. As he walked towards Amber, he stepped into her sweet silhouette. Reaching the pretty site of his girlfriend, he put the vest on her. Instantly, the colour rushed back into her skin. He began to brush his hands along her fair arms. ‘Amber, why do you insist on coming out here night after night. You will waste your life away starring at the moon.’ Caleb mentioned to his girl as he walked around to the front, and looked into her deep blue eyes, in which blended in with the colour of the lake below. ‘It’s getting cold out darling. Why don’t we go back to the town?’ he asked. The girl quickly glanced up into the air, and than back down at Caleb. ‘Just a little bit longer?’ Amber suggested with that majestic smile that she gave every time she wanted something. ‘Fine, but just a few minutes longer.’ Caleb told her as he took her by the hand.
A man walked by them carrying a torch in his hand. It looked as if he was in a rush as he ran passed. He stopped in front of a pile of wood. He lowered the torch to the wood, and a large fire instantly ignited. These fires were signal fires for airships that may be passing by, so they can figure out where they were. ‘Now, that is truly perfect/ Some day, fire will be lit, to guide all through Serenia.’ Caleb said to the beautiful lady in front of him. ‘I hope your right, Caleb. For I can hardly see you now.’ she replied
They sat down back against the rock, and were ready to share a passionate kiss, but as they were holding each other, a noise came from overhead, and the wind picked up once again. The two come to a stand in each others arms, and looked up into the air. Many lights were to be seen in the air. ‘Airships?’ she asked her boyfriend. ‘Not just any airships… Frigates!’ Caleb said in excitement. ‘Something‘s, wrong, we have to find my father!’ Caleb yelled as he grabbed Amber by the hand and ran off towards the town. The two reached the town, just as it was turning pitch black. It had been a long haul from the plains to the Serenian town, about two hours to run. The town of Liken acts as one of the major port towns for the Serenian Navy. As soon as you would reach the height that was Crimson hill, you could see the green and white flags of Serenia, flapping in the wind, over the town hall. The town Hall was a masterpiece of a stone mixture, as was the gates to the town. The only beauty the town had, was sunrise by the waterfront, and besides that the rest of the town was bland.
Caleb and Amber, found themselves standing outside the cobblestone building, and that building was Caleb’s home. Caleb wasted no time to find out what was going on. He through open the mahogany door that his father built and entered the home. The home was filled with sturdy furniture, probably also made by his father. On the table his father’s shield and an empty mug. The only light noticeable in the home was coming from his mother’s room, down the hall. The light of the candle highlighted the edges of the door. ‘Stay out here, Amber.’ Caleb told the girl as he opened the door. The slight breeze from the door, snuffed out the candles in the room, and now the moon made a woman in the corner visible. ‘Mother, why do you cry so?’ he asked in a gentle voice. As she cried, the woman could only mutter a very few words: ‘Your father… War, Promathia.’ The crying mother told her little boy as she ran out of breath. Slowly, the boy now in tears left the room and walked over to the table to where his father’s shield was. As he picked it up, he moved to the door, to stare at the sky. ‘Right, I understand what I have to do.’ Caleb said to himself, taking one step at out of the door. He forgot all about Amber.
Amber shuffled over to her boyfriend, ‘Caleb, that’s your fathers shield. What-Err?’ but she already knew the answer to what she was going to ask. A tear ran gently down her soft cheeks, when Caleb finally noticed the angel beside him.
‘T-Tonight I am to go to war, my sweet.’ with that, Caleb turned to look at her, the shield, which was hanging in his hand dropped as he took hold of Amber. ‘I have to, my father, he’s gone to set off for Promathia.’
Amber pushed herself away from him and turned around to face the moon, ‘I guess it was only time holding us back from war. Only time, keeping you with me. Don’t let time run out Caleb, don’t leave me.’
‘I must, it is my duty as a soldier of Serenia, and it is my responsibility as my father’s son. I will find him at the docks, and we will set off together.’ Caleb said with a voice unlike the one he used with his mother. This one was colder, less reassuring. “Look, when I come back… I am going to be in Promathia, they have the finest Jewlers in the land. I will get a ring, and when I come back to you, I will ask for your hand in marriage.’ Caleb said, as he turned Amber around with his right arm.
‘Oh, Caleb…’ but he simply covered her lips over with his hand.
‘I have to go Amber, please look after my mother while I am gone. If something is to happen to Father, I don’t know what she will do.’ He put his body next to hers, and gently caressed her. ‘No more words, no goodbyes, just this.’ Caleb drew her in closer than ever, now there was no space between them, they were one body. At that moment he kissed her passionately on the lips, and she needed no words. She knew that one day her love would return unharmed.
He let her go but before the night could take her over she ran up to him, shield in her hand, and kissed him on the cheek. Caleb merely looked at her to tell her that he was truly sorry, and put his arm out to receive the shield. As he took it, he told himself that he wouldn’t look back, and he left it at that. Over the ridge in front of him, a horse was trotting, blood cloaked in its mane of hair, which moved wildly with the wind. It was this that reminded him of back on the hill.
Caleb disobeyed his conscience and stopped in his tracks. He turned around in hopes that the girl of his dreams would still be there. Too his amazement, she was. Her hair was gleaming in the moonlight, the wind took control. ‘I love you!’ He screamed, so the words would travel to her on the same wind that made her beauty travel to him. He broke another one of his words.
‘I won’t break another one.’ He said to himself as he continued to make his path to the docks. Another horse galloped past him, this one baring weaponry. The rider stopped and bid the horse to turn around.
‘Caleb, is that you?’ the horse master asked.
‘Gino, what’s going on?’ he replied. The answer he expected to get was that Serenia was going to war with Promathia. The response he did get however was the horse master tossing him hilted sword. The sword fell into Caleb’s hand as he outstretched it, and wrapped it around his shoulder.
‘War, we are going to war!’ Gino told him with an aggressive overtone. ‘King Raymond of Promathia insulted our peace agreement by sending spies into the library of his majesty. We are replying with a full scale attack.’
‘What of my father?’
‘He is sailing out now, you might be able to catch him if you are quick enough. Hop on the back of Elix, we will get there quick enough.’
Caleb hopped on the back of the white horse and galloped off over the ridge with Gino. Over the horizon. The sight that they seen wasn’t the usual sight of the ships docked in the harbour, but it was many ships setting out. There were only two left.
Overhead, another fleet of airships passed by. ‘It’s happening already my friend.’ Gino told the man on his back. ‘Those are the Alpha ships, the bombardiers. Soon the last ship will sail out of here, and the war will have already begun’
The horse reached the docks. The two ships that were left in the harbour were eagerly awaiting to set sail. One was already filled, but the other was empty. Caleb jumped off the ship, and ran up the ramp of the crew filled ship.
‘Caleb, look out to sea!’
As Caleb looked out, he seen the red ship, Firefly… his father’s ship. He sunk down onto the board. There was nothing he could do now to get to his father on time. Gino stood in front of him now. ‘There isn’t much you can do now, nothing more than fight anyway. I promise you I will get you to your father. You will sail now with my crew. We set off for Promathia in twenty minutes, you best board the ship now.’
He stood back up and looked across the waters, wondering if his father could see his tiny figure on the docks, if he knew that he was coming for him. ‘Yes, I will sail off with you Gino.’
‘Our ship is the other, the archers ship… We could use a good swordsman as backup.’
Gino turned around and walked back to horse. ‘We leave…twenty minutes!’
