Whisper

The lights swirling in a languid dance—
To make me wish for this romance;
To fortify this maudlin mood;
When I can’t stop thinking of you!

Imagine the touch of your lips—
Even though you are not mine;
Imagine the feeling of your kiss—
Though there’s someone else at your side;

Though there’s someone else holding you—
Touching you—
Loving you—
Though there’s someone else kissing you—
Missing you—
And living too!

But your spirit still holds me though the night;
Cradles me through the morning light—
A whisper of what I’ve never known;
To forget I’m in the dark alone!
