From Spring Until the Very First Freeze

From spring until the very first freeze

The leaves on the trees mature and grow

It’s time to let go of the flying trapeze.

The foliage changes from the color of peas,

To red, to brown, to orange, to yellow

From spring until the very first freeze.

The temperatures fall several degrees.

A chill in the air smells just so.

It’s time to let go of the flying trapeze.

They’ve grown ill at ease.

The end is near, they know.

From spring until the very first freeze.

The old trunk starts to bend and wheeze.

It holds its head high, but collapses low.

It’s time to let go of the flying trapeze.

The leaves are turning on the trees.

The end of life is not the foe.

From spring until the very first freeze.

It’s time to let go of the flying trapeze.
