Sometimes I feel like I don’t know who I am...
She gazed at herself in the mirror for a long time, frowning, “Hmm.”
Surrey was very pale. Her eyes were as blue as the Devil’s and her hair fell in black ringlets; pretty, if you were into that sort of thing.
Her mom was calling for her to get ready for school, but she just wasn’t up to it today. Surrey had never liked school though she never knew why.
The glass felt both cool and warm when she brushed her fingers against it. “I do love to look at you.”
Never herself; but the mirror in general.
It was so smooth, so flawless. Nothing wrong with it what so ever. It cooled her headaches and fevers and heated her cold skin when she was crying alone. She never knew why she cried or cut; but she did.
“Angel, please,” her mother called impatiently, “get ready.”
“I’m not feeling well,” she croaked back, eyeing her bed warily. In all fairness, she wasn’t.
Bounce about, bounce here and there. This game shall never ever be fair. Behind the curtains, above the fan. Catch me, catch me, if you can!
When she got a worried consent, Surrey slid into her bra and underwear than crashed into bed, barely able to stay awake for more than a second.
That won’t do...
The window shut and than the curtains pulled up over her. For a second, it lingered by her bedside.
Merely long enough to brush a small kiss on her cheek. Than he almost returned to where he had been posted to forever remain her guardian.
The mirror.
Samhiel touched the glass, than turned back to face her with a tender smile.
“Everything will be OK as long as I’m here, babe.” Twas his name for her.
He didn’t know why he was here, why he had ended up with her nor why he was dead. But that didn’t matter.
It made him happy to watch over her.
To spend those brief moments while she was asleep cradling her or touching her face was his Shangri La; his Heaven. Sometimes, when she was staring into the mirror he would stare back.
Blue was his favorite color; the blue of her eyes which could always soothe his temper inside the dark realm of the mirror.
A hoarse cough from her made him turn back and glide to her worriedly.
“Sleep well...you gotta get over that cold, kid,” he said gently, stroking her face with his knuckles.
She murmured softly in her sleep, rolled over and threw her arms around his neck.
Hell!!!”
Samhiel panicked, “W-Whoa-!”
Still murmuring, Surrey pulled him down into her arms. “ I caught you.”
A hot blush lit his face. For once he couldn’t say anything.
“I caught the ghost in my room,” she whispered, eyes still shut.
Hesitating, he leaned forward and blew gently on her neck.
She moaned, released him than rolled over in her little white bed. “It’s cold...” Luckily she couldn’t hear him swearing in shock and relief.
“...Night, beautiful.” Touching her face again, he ran to the mirror and dove into it.
I’m right here...so sleep for now, because no matter what bad dream frightens you, I will always be here to wake you up with my kiss.
