His hand ran down her cheek, gently running across her soft skin. She closed her eyes and turned her head towards him. His fingers brushed against her lips and they were ignited as if by fire. She wanted the touch of his lips upon hers, wanted to taste him and know what love was. Her hair was brushed away from her shoulder and pushed behind her ear. His breath was then against her neck, slow and warm, tingling her skin.
"The time will come." She turned her head a little more, opening her eyes, hoping to look at the one who held her emotions captive. She looked up and only saw her blankets. Sighing she slipped out of her bed pulling her robe on and tying it. Frost covered her window and she could see the snow flakes fall.
"Always a dream." Her eyes fell downcast and she moved away from the window. One day she had hoped to meet the man who haunted her dreams, but they were only dreams. She climbed down the steel stairs, knowing that if she stayed inside that room she would never escape her thoughts.
His hair was as unruly as hers, but not as long. Always kept in a loose ponytail it lay against his shoulder. His face was a mystery to her, always to vanish before she could look. A love affair had developed, between two unmet humans, and yet the sense of allure called to them both. The kisses he seldom placed on her lips were soft yet sensual and full of passion. She was always left with a longing, almost a need, for him. To the point where she almost couldn't live without him.
He felt the same. Only able to visit in the darkest recesses of night, he longed to see her, just to hold her night after night. He longed for the night to reveal himself, to let her know that he was always there. He appeared from the shadows when her door closed, just being able to see her was enough for him now.
But for how long? How long would he be able to stay hidden from her, how long would he be able to want to keep himself hidden? One day it would be too much for both of them, the desire would take them both. But that day was not today, nor tomorrow. He stepped back into the shadows knowing that if he didn't, he never would.
Love; this was such a word that was foreign to both souls. One had been locked away at a young age, for deeds not of her own. The other exiled from home, never to be heard from again. True they were humans, simple and unknowing, but how both futures would be intertwined not one could say. Some would say it obsession, something that both needed but not actually knowing the true feelings behind it all. Other would call it illusion, something that would not or could not ever last. By simple accord these two souls would call it destiny. They would call it forever, they would call it eternal.
Night would come and night would go, such is the routine. And such was their routine. He would come and he would go, such was their meetings. The future was what each looked forward to every night, for nothing had changed, not in the last twenty-one years. So why is their story so unique? Why it their story one that would be ignored, naively referred to as unimpressionable? Why is the question that both must come to answer, each in their own ways.
