Sestina I wrote a few years ago and found while on a random folder organizing attack . . . it’s rather pretty, and I adore sestinas . . . think ‘m going to write another one soon . . . ah well, enjoy the lovely river in the moonlight! And reviews are nice. ARRGGH. Some body tell me how to make the damn editing create spaces between stanzas . . . it keeps deleteing them and really it's really pissing me off . ..

Moonlight on the River

Peering out from the shadows

A cold silent river

Flows, lit by moonlight

Reveling in its silence.

Like cold fingered hands, mist

Swells up from the murky depths of grey.

-

The hands move along, muting everything to grey.

Not a sound comes from those within the shadows

As they are swallowed up by mist

Which comes creeping from the frigid river.

All around is silence

Untouched, save for the moonlight.

-

The river seems to brighten, lit by moonlight

Fading back to grey.

Those hidden sit in silence

Staring out of the shadows

At the sinuous river

Overflowing with mist.

-

The hands of the mist

Twine about the pure shafts of moonlight

Reflected on the river

Driving away the grey

From the deep shadows.

The river sits in silence.

-

The light shines down in silence

Penetrating the mist.

It lightens the shadows,

Pooling upon the ground. Moonlight

Brings light to the grey

And shines down into the river

-

Mist continues rising into the night off the river

Seeping into the woods in silence.

A soft blanket of grey

Descends upon the forest, the mist

Dancing in the moonlight,

Lying hidden in the shadows.

-

Shafts of moonlight descend into silence

Blanketed by the grey tendrils of mist

The light off of the river fades into the shadows.
