Recycled Words

I’m feeding you recycled words,

tailoring them to your tastes.

They’ve been rehearsed before

To maintain this illusion.

We live this lie.

Because I’m all too confident.

I don’t miss a beat.

I don’t forget a line.

It’s impossible for this to be real

If I’m not tongue-tied.

You don’t leave me speechless as I do you.

You leave me not breathless in your wake,

Only ephemerally enthrall

But after lucid walks

It’s true

That I don’t love you

The way you want me to.
