"I can see you"

He said

And he looked so old,

So wise

I can see you...

And I believed him

--

Haunted in those broken shadows

Withered in those bladed smiles

You were then my paper lifeboat

And the shark that circled round

Jaded in those murky waters

You were the danger 'neath my feet

And my perception wavered...

--

I was lost, and in my folly

You claimed that you had found me

You could hear my voiceless screaming

You could see my haunted eyes

And you claimed that you would help me

Oh, why did I believe your lies?

--

I should have stayed where I was hidden

Curtains drawn and windows closed

I should have stayed where I was safe

With no-one to “protect” me, but myself

And maybe then you’d not have hurt me

With your lies and shallow hopes

Take me but do not deceive me

Break me so it does not hurt

--

I can’t take your shallow searching

You’re the reason that I hide

And I know you’ll never find me

Nor the reason why I lie

You look into my eyes and see

The soulless monster deep inside

That guards the broken whimpering child

This crippled soul you’ve left behind
