You Used to Love

you used to love

you used to love me

the quiet whipping sounds the branches made as you cut me a piece

as you tended to the wilderness out back

our hearts could meld

before you redid the stone around the pond

made it bigger, better

ignored the deck

the broken nails i worked so hard to push in

you used to love

the way the sun felt after an afternoon of climbing high in the sky

you used to love

the rainbow door you painted for me

before you painted it red

i liked all the different colors better

you used to love

the cool water of a shower after a day away

you used to love

reading me stories

you used to love

kissing me goodnight

giving me hugs to envelop me in your love

you used to love

you used to love

you used to love me.
