Sapphire seas break against the cold granite cliffs, sheer and unfathomable. From somewhere close fly out five seabirds, all together. They fly out and around the cliff into the fading sunset, crimson, ginger, magenta, fuchsia, royal. In the cliff-face is a cave, and though it isn't see, a dragon lurks inside. There is no doubt, the dragon is there, and its rumors have spread far and wide. Metallic and sleek, beautiful but foul, it guards a passageway. A way that goes up to a fortress which sticks out from the cliff-face, but is not on top of the cliff. A tower is there with a single lighted window. Inside the window is a maiden. She is waiting. She sits by the window, looking out over the seas. Sometimes a ship drifts by. Sometimes she befriends a gull. But mostly she waits. Mostly I wait. I am she.
Stone blocks all around her
She sits inside a cold and lonely tower
Sitting on the stone floor
In her endless hour
Window, she waits by the window
It overlooks the sea
Below, the dragon on guard below
She sings, Rescue me.
The face of the cliff too sheer for you to climb
The surface of the sea too cold for you to brave
The way past the dragon is the only way
Fair maiden in the tower
Dancing solitaire to the music of the waves
She's waiting to be found
She sings, Take me away.
I'm trapped inside my fortress
I'm waiting to be found
Come save me from y dragon
I see too far down
Twenty-first century maiden
Trapped in a fortress of time
Waiting just to be rescued
And count the stars by night
Dreaming of castles and dragons
And rescue by love that is true
Sitting in patches of sunlight
She waits for you.
