Chapter twelve

Kat picked up Lexy swiftly as she looked up Artemis. “We have to take her home. Or take her to the doctor.” She said as he looked down as Lexy’s almost stationary body.

“Was it my fault?” Artemis asked reaching out to only feel a foreign feeling a rise with in him. Which he didn’t understand quiet as he locked at Lexy to only realize she was bleeding. Unsure how to react he stepped back away from them. Cat looked up at him as soon as he stepped back away from them. She could tell that Artemis realized something was wrong by the way his eye’s looked. They had gotten darker, more dangerous.

“Were does she live? We got to take her home before she dies! So hurry up and get done looking at her like a meal so we can help her!” Cat ordered making Artemis snap out of his trans-like state. He knew he couldn’t speak correctly at that moment so all he could do is point the direction.

Cat followed Artemis to Lexy house that was all lit up with the sitting in the living room watching TV merrily. Cat wondered why she never had been inviting to Lexys house before. Her parents looked like nice people after all they were in the same room together talking happily. Cat quickly knocked on the front door knowing they would open it and help Lexy.

The TV quieted as the front door open to reveal Lexy’s father standing there surprised as the man looked down at Lexy in shock.

“What happen!?” He asked as he quickly pushed the door open wider for them to enter.

“She came out to help me with my friend Artemis who was thinking about running away and she suddenly collapsed for no reason. So we took her home as fast as we could we need to get her a doctor.” Cat said quickly stepping in side as he shut the door behind them to only have Lexy’s mother step out from the living room.

“What’s going on?” She asked startled them looked down in Cat’s arms to see Lexy laying there passed out. Lexy’s mothers lips curved into a sinister smile as she cocked her hands on her hips.

“Honey move so we can put Lexy on the couch and call a doctor.” He said panicked as he tried to wave his wife to the side.

“Why not we just drop her on the floor and call it a night. I mean Lexy not worth anything and her dying would be the best for the both of us. Don’t you agree Jack?” She said trying to persuade him to do what she wanted.

“Stop kidding Anne. Move out of the way.” Jack spoke kindly as he urged them to move Lexy into the living room, to only have Anne stand in the door way unwilling to move out of there way.

No wonder Lexy doesn’t invite me over to hang at her house, her mom seems like a nut case. Cat thought as she stood there looking Anne straight in the face without flinching.

“Anne move out of the way now!” He ordered making her scurry out of the way farther into the kitchen.

Cat quickly walked into the living room and placed Lexy gently on the couch as Artemis stood behind her silently watching Lexy.

“Thank you for bringing Lexy home and how are you two?” Jack asked as he walked up to Lexy gently touching her cheek to see if she had a fever.

“I’m Cat and this is Artemis right behind me. We’re her best friends. It’s nice to meet you.” She said kindly offering him a heartfelt smile.

“That’s funny up until now we didn’t know Lexy had any friends.” He said blinking absent mindedly as he got up quickly and ran into the kitchen turning on the faucet. A few seconds later he rushed out with a wet wash cloth and washed the blood off of Lexys forehead.

So Lexy parents either don’t listen to her or Lexy parents just don’t care about her much. Cat thought as she smiled even though she wanted get angry and scold him for being a bad parent.

“See Lexy doesn’t spend time with us she doesn’t even talk to use about anything. She’s always a loner. She doesn’t tell us if she had problems or she met a new friend.” Jack said as he sighed pulling out his cell phone out of his pocket quickly dialing a phone number.

The phone rang a few times then someone finally picked up.

“Hello hospital. Is there some way I may help you.” The woman said as she sounded so distant.

“Yes! My daughters really sick I need a doctor to make a house call.” He spoke seriously into his end of the phone.

“Sorry doctors no longer make house calls. Sir.” The woman said as she started to talk to another nurse how was by her.

“I don’t want to listen to this guy anymore he’s asking for a doctor to do a house call. Whatever it’s not like it’s important.” The first nurse said to the second.

“Just hang up on him.” The other nurse said annoyed.

Jack stopped in disbelief as there was a click and the phone was hung up on there end. “They hung up on me.” He said a shocked as he stood up.

“I can’t believe this. They all have idiots working form them.” Cat groined as she wish she could call them back and jump through the phone and strangely the damn nurse.

“I’m going to find a doctor stay with Lexy please.” He said as he grabbed his coat and car keys and ran out the door starting up his car. Jack pealed out of the drive way acting like it was a race against time to save Lexy’s life.

“Will she be okay?” Artemis’s voice seemed so distant and tortured as he spoke to Cat how covered Lexy up with a thick blanket unsure what else to do.

“I think so she seemed to be breathing even if it’s shallow.” Cat said looking over her shoulder at Artemis tired face. Something was bothering him and it was easy to see in his dark grayish-black eyes.

“Since my husband is gone I have one thing to say.” Anne said cheerfully as Cat and Artemis looked at her. “Get the hell out of my house. She doesn’t belong here she belongs in the ditch on the side of the road dead somewhere.” She yelled as she pointed at the door.

Cat felt really angry that a mother could even abandon her own daughter like this it made a part of her want to through her outside or possible angry enough to kill her and report it as an accident. But know she was a bigger person then that she wasn’t going to listen to Anne nonsense or her rudeness.

“Now just because my husband let you in here don’t mean I could through you lot out of here!” She yelled once again. “She’s nothing but a waste of space, a spiral of sickness and destruction.”

That when she heard it a growl deep and foreign to her common world. Cat turned around to see Artemis barring his fangs toward this woman how insulted the one person how’s hand was clean from blood. Artemis eyes were crimson red as he posture scream danger as he stood in the center of the living room watching Anne like a cat watches a mouse.

“Don’t you ever talk like that about her! Lexy is good and pure. She’s nice to the one’s how always hurting her! You’re the monster and I’ll not let you say anything else bad about her.” His voice dripped with danger and warning. His voice was thick with an ancient ascent of a culture that had been wiped out long before there language could ever be giving a classification of its own.

To Cat it sounded between Romanian and Greek with the way he formed his words carefully around his accent so people would understand what he was saying. He was actually giving her goose bumps she was so frightened. Anne stepped back in panic as she caught a glimpse of Artemis fangs. That action alone drew the darkest part out of him as he stepped forward. Artemis growled at her.

“If you don’t want this to be you last breath, go away and stay away or I will kill you.” He said lifting his sight to Anne how was now shaking like a leaf as she turned and ran down the hall slamming the door locking herself in her room hoping that door would save her.

Cat expected to watch him run after Anne after all that was probably the worst awaking for him because he just learned he was a vampire. But yet here he was still standing in the same spot not even moving a finger. Then he sighed deeply as he dropped his head breathing raged.

“Cat, may I ask you something?” His voice was still thick with his accent as he didn’t even look up at Cat.

“Sure.” Cat said not sure what to say he frightened her out of her fur. If he became like the other vampire they would be in trouble with no doubt.

“Am I scary or just hideous. That’s why people run away. Lexy didn’t act like that she was kind to me even though I was like this. I just don’t understand.” He growled as he ran his fingers through his hair to only end up standing here quietly.

Cat could swear she smelt new blood but from were it was so close then she looked at the floor realizing it was Artemis he was crying silently. Which crushed her heart in pieces, he was trying no to show his emotion.

“Your not ugly and yes you do frighten people because you look dangerous. Have you ever looked in the mirror when you feel like that? Your eyes are crimson red and your voice isn’t as gentle as before.” She said feeling guilty for thinking that he could even do anything veil or cruel.

“No I know what they look like. I don’t want to see.” He said quietly almost in a whisper that no one except cat could hear.

That surprised her. “You’ve seen others like you?” She asked curiously and yet afraid all at the same time.

“We got attacked earlier to day. But not really see them. I figured it out a few minute after that when I was walking home with you. I’m not in another world, no time just passed me by. I remember now that I kill people how where infected and became vampires. I kill them all. They looked so hungry with they became angry they look like monsters.” He said pausing as he looked at his hand.

“Then why are you like you are?” Cat asked as she mopped Lexy’s brow once again as she watched him.

“I came there with my family. They said I was blessed that I’m not a normal human that I was the promised one I could be turned and here I am.” He said lost in his memory as they stood there silent.
