“Home sweet home,” Dryden chuckled, releasing his tight grip on Tricia. Gasping for air, she stumbled back, and he caught her arm to prevent her from falling. Afraid to meet his eyes, she glanced around at her surroundings in surprise. “What, were you expecting Dracula’s castle?” he asked, noticing her gaze. She blinked, mentally admitting she had. To her shock, the room appeared to be one of several in a regular-looking house.

Hidden in the base of mountain God-knows-where. The windows, though open, revealed sleek gray cavern walls with stalactites.

“Don’t worry – I’m not going to do anything to you,” he assured her, but his calmness only put her more on edge. “I’m sure they filled your head with all sorts of sensational horror stories about how I torture victims for years and that sort of thing, right?”

She nodded mutely, fear numbing her tongue.

“I thought so,” he shook his head in amusement. “Well, they were telling the truth – of a sort. I only do that to girls whom I don’t particularly care for, or are…well, too easy. But you, Tricia…you’re going to be worth winning over.”

Staring at him, she heard the sudden huskiness in his voice, and stepped back as he released her arm. Watching him warily, she kept her body tense, ready to run when she could.

“This house is demonically sealed, so I highly suggest staying put and tossing all ideas of flight out of your head,” he mentioned. “I’ll show you your room – yes, your room. I told you, Tricia – you’re worth winning over with persuasion, instead of force. I think you’ll find your stay here very pleasurable.”

Shivering at his tone, she followed him without protest down a hall, and into a bedroom. A double bed was in one corner, the silk sheets and pillowcases making an odd contrast to the practical blankets. The windows were open, letting in the slightly-damp air of the cave, and she looked at him curiously.

“Sealed,” he repeated, and left without another word – or look. Taking in her surrounding as she sat on the bed, she noticed the black carpet underneath her feet. A wardrobe was by the door, opposite a vanity table. A bookcase was messily filled with various reading material, but other than that, there seemed no other way to pass the time.

“What am I doing here?” she murmured, hanging her head between her knees. Tears of frustration welled up in her eyes, and she kicked the floor angrily. Squinting her eyes shut, she took several deep breaths to calm herself, and then stood back up. Noticing a door across from the bed, she opened it gingerly, and saw that it was a bathroom, done in black and crimson.

Slamming it shut again, she threw herself on the bed and curled up into a tight ball, fervently wishing that none of this had ever happened – or that she was dead.

“She’ll come to me soon enough,” Dryden said to himself, a small smile on his lips. “She won’t be able to help herself. Seclusion will do wonders for her attitude after a few days. And with this seal, I’ll have all the time in the world to seduce her without interruption.”

Crossing his legs in satisfaction, he stared into the flames in the fireplace, and narrowed his eyes suddenly.

“Damn Kye – that half-brother bastard,” he spat out, and then calmed himself. “He always was the weaker one – and the younger. And always will be.”

Waking up with a start, Tricia groaned in remembrance of the night before, and stood up groggily. Pushing her hair out of her face impatiently, she looked around, and then strode to the door. To her slight surprise, it was locked.

“It figures,” she grumbled. Rubbing her eyes, she took a deep breath of the air and opened her eyes in determination. “I came here – moping around is not going to help me at all.” A sudden thought coming to mind, she shook her head. “I can’t do that!” she moaned. Standing in silence for several long moments, she took another deep breath to steady her nerves, and strode into the bathroom.

“I have to admit – this is a gorgeous bathroom,” she said grudgingly, as the hot water ran into the black-tiled tub that was set into the floor, which had black tiles. Once it was filled to the brim, Tricia slipped into the water. Letting out a long, low hiss at the sudden burning sensation, her nerves quickly adjusted to the water, and she leaned back in relaxation, closing her eyes slightly. Her hair quickly curled from the steam filling the room, and she decided to wash it before anything else happened.

Scrubbing at her scalp vigorously, Tricia rinsed with the shower head that was next to the tub, and then slipped into the clean water once more. Her body tingled from the feeling, and she suddenly shivered, her skin breaking out into goosebumps.

“So, she’s in the bath,” Dryden commented to himself, hearing the water run. Grinning slightly, he shrugged. “She’ll be needing something dry off with, I’m sure.”

Tricia was jolted out of her state of drowsiness when she heard the door open, and her damp hair flung around as she turned to see who it was. She saw without any surprise that it was Dryden, and noticed that he was carrying some towels with him.

“I assumed you wouldn’t be able to find them,” he said casually, holding them out. Tricia rose out of the tub nervously. She had not been popular with guys at her school, was a virgin, and was anything but a seducer.

“I think I can dry off better with something else,” she said, trying to the nervousness out of her voice. Dryden’s eyes widened at the sight of her slick naked body, and watched as she walked to him, swaying her hips slightly.

Reaching her kidnapper, Tricia touched his arm lightly, and forced the growing feelings of acute embarrassment and disgust down. Running her fingertips up to his shoulder, she pressed flush against him, and noticed in satisfaction that the towels had dropped to the floor. Her hands linked around his neck, and she looked up at him in what she hoped was a seductive manner. He looked back, and she saw the hungry lust in his eyes. Sliding her leg up his own, she gasped when his hand suddenly cupped her from behind, hoisting her off her feet.

He pressed his lips against hers hungrily. While his one hand held up her easily enough, thanks to his demonic strength, the other became occupied with feeling her body, reveling in the dampness of her skin.

To her dismay, Tricia felt herself losing control of the situation, and swore at herself in her mind.

You little twit! You actually thought you could seduce him and get him to let you go?” she yelled at herself, and then twitched violently when his finger suddenly pressed against her womanhood.

Hearing a low laugh, she felt his breath in ear, and she tensed as he began to whisper in it.

“Nice try, you little vixen. I admit, you had me going for a moment, but you’re obviously a virgin. And it takes a lot more than a little show to get me to lose control,” he murmured huskily in her ear. “I’ll leave you in peace to learn from this little lesson, shall I?”

With that, he abruptly dropped her, and she barely managed to keep her balance. After one last lust-filled glance at her, he smirked and strode from the room. Turning a crimson red, she grabbed a towel and sat heavily on the floor, holding it around herself.

Almost three days had passed since the incident in the bathroom, and Tricia was more than happy with her secluded state. To her surprise, the books on the shelves were actually ones she had an interest in, and she kept herself occupied with reading. She forced thoughts of the others out of her mind, certain now that they were unable to find her.

And anyway…you went with Dryden willingly, remember?” she reminded herself guiltily. “Well, under the circumstances it wasn’t very willingly, but still…maybe they think I wanted to go with him now.”

Frowning down at the page, Tricia shook her head to clear her mind, and folded her legs underneath her, resuming concentration on the story.

“This is ridiculous,” Lez grumbled, as they rested briefly. “Some tracking, you blood-sucking parasite.”

“Care to repeat that?” Cain growled, his eyes fixing on the demon. Aiden had remained silent the entire trip, raising Kye’s concerns.

“Oh, shut up, both of you,” Rhett said tiredly, but glanced at Cain. “But how did you mange to lose her?”

“A seal,” the vampire muttered reluctantly. “Dryden put up a demonic seal, blocking her aura.”

“Bastard thought of everything,” Lez sighed. Kye watched Aiden sharply, and followed the angel when he strode away from the group restlessly.

“What’s going on, Aiden?” he pressed, sitting down next to his companion. “You haven’t said a word in three days. You’re not acting like yourself.”

“Angels don’t actively seek companionship – not like other species,” Aiden said suddenly, and Kye listened closely. “Because we usually act as guardians or keepers, we don’t need to seek company. It’s possible for angels, just like anyone else, to have soulmates, but because we remain secluded, few of us do.”

Kye peered at his friend sharply, but remained silent.

“When an angel finds a soulmate, it’s literal – our souls merge and become one,” he continued.

“I think I can guess where this is going,” Kye said finally, seeing the angel was finished. “That glow…it was your souls, wasn’t it? Tricia is your soulmate.”

“She’s a human,” Aiden said emotionlessly. “I’m immortal – it would be cruel to both of us if she knew. There’s no way, as far as I know, for someone to become an angel either. Not like a vampire, werewolf, or even a demon.”

“I see,” Kye nodded. “That would explain why you’ve been acting so strangely. Don’t worry, Aiden – we’ll find her before anything happens. And then we’ll find a way around this, trust me. Right now we have to concentrate on finding her, though.”

“I can sense her – vaguely, but still,” Aiden admitted. “But I’m unsure where, exactly. It’s more like playing Hot-Cold.”

“Hm.”

Two more days had passed with Tricia in seclusion, and it was beginning to wear on her nerves. For one thing, she had no clue where Dryden was or what he was up to, which was making her extremely nervous. For another, she was just plain bored and lonely – after being surrounded with the others for so long, she had grown used to their constant company, and it was a strange feeling being alone once more.

Unknown to her, Tricia was playing right into Dryden’s hand.

She sighed and stood up, stretching a little to rid herself of the stiffness before looking around and shrugging.

“Of course nothing’s going to be different,” she told herself. “Stupid. I wish he’d do something though, instead of just letting me stay here alone and getting paranoid.”

“I’d be careful what I wish for, if I were in your position,” he chuckled, and she spun around in surprise to see him standing in the doorway. Flushing, she folded her arms across her breasts and stiffened as he approached her, a look of faint amusement on his face.

“What do you want?”

“I think it would be obvious to you by now, Tricia,” he reprimanded her teasingly. “Relax. I merely came to see if you’d like to eat dinner with me tonight instead of by yourself.”

She eyed him suspiciously, but the temptation of breaking the lonely cycle – even if it was with a crazed half-demon – was too much for her to resist, exactly as Dryden knew it would be.

“I guess,” she nodded reluctantly, and he grinned.

“Good. I brought you this to wear,” he said, handing her a package. She took it gingerly and continued to watch him warily. “All right, I’ll go. I’ll come and fetch you when it’s time for dinner. Until then, Tricia.”

She shivered at the underlying tone in his voice as he strode from the room, once more locking the door behind him. Sighing, she glanced down at the package in her hand and sat back down in the chair, pulling at the string to open it. Pulling it out of the paper, she gasped when she saw crimson-colored silk, accompanied by deep gold edging along the bodice and edges. Running her hand over the gown, she noticed the crimson shoes along with it and leaned back in confusion.

“Why’d he give me something like this to wear?” she wondered, unknowing of how demons ‘courted’ or took someone for their own.

“He must have gone snooping through my clothes to get a size,” she muttered, smoothing it down. The gown fit her like a glove, and it was impossible for her to adjust it the slightest bit once she managed to get it on, particularly the bodice. Leaving her hair loose and wavy, she frowned at the mirror, still wondering what her kidnapper was up to.

“I see you’re ready,” he noticed, opening her door. “Very nice,” he said in approval, his eyes roaming her body. She suppressed a feeling of dread that rose at his tone and instead straightened her back boldly.

“I thought we were going to eat,” she prodded, and he looked back to her eyes.

“Not one for foreplay?” he smirked. Before she could say anything he took her arm and led her out of the room. “It’s nothing fancy. I hope you like chicken.”

“It’s all right,” she said, inspecting his own dinner wear. “Nothing fancy, huh?” she thought, seeing that he wore black shoes and a black suit without a tie and loosened collar. “Something’s up…I just wish I knew what was going on. How am I supposed to protect myself if I don’t know what I’m protecting myself from?”

“A lot going on?” he asked, seeing her lost in thought. She blinked and merely shrugged. “Well, I’ve decided to let you out of confinement, seeing how you’ve behaved yourself during this time. You’ll still be confined to the house itself, but at least it’s not a single room.”

“I don’t mind,” she said, obviously lying. He chuckled to himself but was careful not to let her see.

You’ll see a lot more of the house later, I promise you,” he thought, secretly pleased that his plan was working perfectly. Tricia was letting her guard down due to her days of confinement, and the ones supposed to be protecting her were nowhere to be seen or heard from.

“Did you make this?” she asked suddenly near the end of dinner. They had remained silent throughout the meal, but Dryden had made no attempt to force her into conversation. Indeed, he had seemed content merely to watch her while they ate. Tricia was uncomfortable in the dress, since the sleeves hung off her shoulders and revealed a bit of cleavage in the process, but had done her best to focus her mind on more important matters – like ignoring Dryden’s gaze.

“Yes,” he nodded calmly. “I don’t usually cook, not having to eat much, but occasionally I try my hand at it.”

That’s a pathetic attempt to sound humble and casual,” she noticed, peering intently at him. When he caught her gaze she flushed and looked away, annoyed he had seen her watching him. Looking away from him, she didn’t a smile cross his face briefly before the amused look appeared once more.

“Are you finished?” he asked, seeing that she was no longer touching her plate.

“Yes,” she nodded, and he stood up. “I can get my own dishes,” she said, taking her plate and silverware before he could reach them.

“All right,” he said mildly, and led her into the kitchen. “Just put them in the sink for now.” Tricia silently placed them in the sink and watched him uneasily as he put his own dishes in the sink, still unsure what he was planning.

I have a feeling I’m being an idiot about something, but I can’t place my finger on it…” she thought, but was snapped out of her reverie when he took her arm.

“Would you like to see the rest of house?” he asked. Not able to find an excuse to say no, she merely sighed and nodded.

“I don’t like the feeling I’m getting,” Kye mentioned with a frown on his face. “Something’s up. Aiden, are we close?”

“Getting closer,” the angel told them in satisfaction. “Cain, are you able to pick her up as well?”

“Yeah – that must mean we’re either past the barrier or he’s not concentrating on it,” the vampire nodded.

“Or it’s a trap,” Rhett thought, and Lez cracked his knuckles.

“I owe him one for the beating,” the cat demon growled, and earned an amused look from the werewolf and a concerned glance from Kye.

“You better watch yourself, Aiden,” the fire demon said quietly, pulling the angel aside from the others for a moment as Rhett and Cain picked on the cat demon. “Dryden’s sure to know about it, and you’ll probably be his first target, even before me. He won’t take any chances.”

“I know that,” Aiden said, a threatening tone in his voice that the demon had never heard before. Kye stared momentarily at Aiden before nodding in defeat and retuning to the others.

“I just hope you know what you’re doing,” he said quietly. The angel merely gazed silently into the sky, unseeing of his friends or even his surroundings.

I hope this is a good chapter! Please review!
