Changeable

Introduction

The Legends speak of a time before the Mighty Mountain fell. A Time where humans could take on the forms of any species of animal. Of course it wasn't that simple and their Gift had rules, but there were countless humans who possessed this Gift. The humans who did not possess such a Gift became quickly jealious and afraid of their power. They began to hunt them, treating them like the very animals they could turn into. Within centuries the Varians, as the Others named them, became fewer and fewer. Some went into Hiding, as others just simply stayed in their human form, never to use their Gift again.

The Hunters told stories of these Varians, their hunts, how they captured them and so on. These stories became Rumors, Myths, and Legends. When the Stories became so corrupted the Others could no longer tell what was Fact or Fiction and as time went by, the Varians were forgotten, except for when it came to a bed time story told to a small child.

Then, the Mighty Mountain fell. The world was nearly destroyed, but by faith Humans had survived. Most of the knowledge known before this catastrophe was lost. Even the stories of the Varian, the Hunters, and the bed time tales told to children to lull them to sleep. But little did the humans know, Varians still existed.

The older Varians were quite wise and still possessed knowledge of the events that happened before the Mighty Mountain fell, but they were few. It would be up to these Elders to save their race from dying out, and they wouldn't give up without a fight.

See, Varians are very stubborn, hot tempered creatures. Most of the time they are cold hearted and tend to stay by themselves, never really coming in contact with one another unless to mate and even then it's a rather dangerous experience. If a pair is young and inexperienced then more often then not, one is going to get killed and be severly injured.

Power comes with age. The older a Varian is, the more knowledge it has and the larger the form it can change in to. Their Gift is somewhat learned however. Some forms come naturally, while older Varians can learn to take on the form of a much larger animal. Young Varians are born with one form. This form reflects on who they are, what they will become, and what they are like.

Varians do not age as normal humans do. They can live for many centuries, although how long that is, is not known. It could take a Varian a decade or more to learn to Change into a different animal and it could also take a year depending on the specific being.

As the years pass, humans are gaining loss knowledge. They have unlock some of the Legends once told to their ancestors and now they are trying to find Truth in what the stories tell. Many humans are still unaware of the still waning race of the Varian, but within time that will all change.

From the knowlegde the humans have gained, the Hunters are back, but they have no idea who their prey is and what they can do.
