Author's Note
This chapter is the end of Part 1, and signifies the revolution that the human race is going through. Some people I have showed this two (not CD, though ) have been slightly confused by some aspects of it. The number one thing, though, is the fact that this is basically the merging of two sub-plots into one big one, and a summary of what goes on with the surface world. Another note: not many reviews...sad...
Chapter 5
The world changed after that night. The burnt bodies of the two knights were discovered by more of the Ignorant. Well, it is probably obvious by now that the Ignorant were we. The two bodies were brought before the FBI. And, as we humans are well known for, the information was leaked. A cover-up was planned, and applied. And it failed. The “big bad government” doesn’t know how to be Umbrella Incorporated or a legion of Scully and Mulder oppressors. They don’t know how to cover up the fact that the monsters that you thought didn’t go bump in the night actually do, and can bump extra hard.
Of course, Miss Alice Jerly’s photographs appeared at the front of each newspaper from San Francisco to Moscow, and more pictures of the corpses of the already autopsied creatures—newly dubbed Etenebressians, coming from the Latin words meaning “Out of the dark”—were delivered to the Chicago Tribune and many other newspapers. But the Tribune, being the center of all this activity, got it first, and released it first. So the first riots occurred in Chicago.
It needn’t be described for the reader what exactly occurred during the riots, and the atrocities that were witnessed in Chicago should go unmentioned. The focus of this author is not to speak about the humans and their panicked reactions. Murder has sadly become commonplace in our society, and there are already accounts much more accurate than the producers of this piece of work could piece together. So, really, the only thing left to do would be to report what went on in the Tungris.
The Tungris are the expanse of tunnels that lie beneath the surface of the world. They tend to snake along beneath continents, digging down especially deep beneath the bottom of the ocean and in generally unpopulated areas. Unlike popular theory at the time—although, who would take fantasy stories as scientific theory—“monsters,” as they are informally known, tend to keep their capitals and provinces beneath human major cities, in order to stay out of the way of spelunkers and geologists. Really, who goes cave diving in New York City?
There are many entrances to the Tungris, some in sewer and some in abandoned buildings. Melony had passed from all the excitement that night, and was carried through one of those. It is believed that they were forced to take an entrance two city blocks west from where they were. As it was, they could not take the one in the church with all of the people gathered around it. Telkamon crossed the threshold of the entrance, his nights following in tactical formation. The medic carried Melony, cradling her in his arms at the request of the captain. Melony would miss the surface world, when she woke. It was the last she would see of it.
