No Evil

Luke could see no evil.

(his eyes blank and gaping, wide open as he moved, blinded, eyes put out with burning iron, with his hands stretched out in front of him, feeling his way as carefully as he could)

Luke could hear no evil.

(bloody tatters where his ears were, a hard blow and some skilled work with a knife taking his hearing, fingers running over faint indentations in an attempt to understand them)

Luke could speak no evil.

(no tongue, no words, no sounds except moans and unintelligible cries, trying to say something, anything, but he can’t form the words properly and nobody bothers to listen anymore)

But Luke could remember the evil done to him.

(and that made all the difference)
