Fresh white and new,

Back to me, red jacket on, right foot over left

We both stand smiling,

Sit laughing,

Doing nothing in the darkness of the back of the room

Where our friends’ bodies pulsate with the reckless abandon of their youth.

We really would like to think that we are more mature than we are.

Last time I checked we were only 18

Last time I checked we were only children

Last time I checked we were only flirting.

So what’s the big deal?

Oh that’s right:

It’s me and you,

and that makes all the difference.
