A/N: This poem is based off of a dream that I had last night. I dreamt that I was engaged to a man who was about 15-20 years older than I was. I have no idea as to why I dreamt that, but I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I put my thoughts into a poem.

I’m Only Sixteen

I’m only sixteen: I’m not ready for this…

You say it’s all right, that I’m a fast learner.

But from that first embrace, our first kiss,

I knew that if I said no, you I would miss.

Something about you sharpens my senses,

Makes me aware of reality surrounding me.

Your affection knows no boundaries or fences,

Your friendship penetrates my defenses.

When you took my hand, my heart leapt.

When you touched my face, my breath quickened.

Thoughts of you put me to sleep as thought I had never before slept.

And when I saw you kneeling before me, I wept.

But I’m only sixteen; I’m not ready for this life…

A life with you, by your side always.

My heart says yes, but my mind is in strife.

If you can wait a little longer, then I will say yes to be your wife.
