Chapter 7
It was hard to make our way into James’ country undetected. It turned out that Mariah was right. The second that they heard we were within the vicinity, there were soldiers at all the passes and gateways. Soldiers were crawling everywhere, constantly searching for any signs of where we were.
We let the horses go off into the opposite direction that we were going, causing a distraction. We heaved a sigh of relief as the soldiers fell for it and went off into the wrong direction.
Father and I were able to clear one of the passes on foot as quick as we could before the troops came back to their posts. Looking before us, we saw a land that looked nothing like ours. The boarders were lush and beautiful, as were our own, but as you got further into the mainland there was only a country burned and dry from drought and plague.
I shook my head, as my father turned to me.
“Jonathan, it looks as if this country needs our help.”
“How can we help anyone before we help ourselves? There’s no way. We haven’t got the military power to do so.”
“But, Mariah might. I f we can get her out and overthrow James, our problems would be over. There wouldn’t be a need for the war any more.”
“But how would we do it?”
“Mariah has the every inch the power her uncle does. If we can overthrow him, we can help her to inherit the thrown, if she’s not set to already.”
I began to shake my head again, “There’s no way.”
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way. There just has to be. It would solve all of our problems, I tell you.”
“I know. I suppose that we could try. It’s worth it if we can save ourselves a ware. If it turns out that we can’t, well, we were getting prepared for it long before this.”
My father gave me a melancholy look, and I knew that he was just a skeptical as I was about it.
He was right. Where there was a will there was a way, and if we didn’t find a way, we would just have to make one.
A/N: I know that this is pretty short, but at least I was able to update! I’ve been so busy with the poetry and ‘An Angel’s Choir’ it’s hard to get to this one! It’s hard to find the inspiration for it nowadays! Please leave a review on your way out. Love to you all!
