"You Had My Back"

Had a dream about you today,
A pretty weird dream I must say.
Dreamt that I accidentally killed someone that was threatening me,
Saying where black people couldn't go in his territory.

That's absurd of course, but it was only a dream.

The point is you saw me,
And instantly went into mom mode and started helping.
Asked what happened, not really caring because on my side you'd always be.
The guy I killed got up like he wanted to get me.

Of course that's absurd, but it was only a dream.

You stared him down with that familiar look daring him to do something.
And later I woke up just thinking about things.
How they've changed between you and me.
A mother and daughter who were best friends stop talking.
That's that bullshit drama brings.

Of course that's absurd and sadly reality.
