How Are You?

“How are you?”

This person asks

As they smile at me politely

And in return

I smile at them kindly

Well, my life is falling apart

I can’t seem to find a light

The one time I give out my heart,

They break it just to be right

I am almost never content

And mostly always depressed

I’m becoming weaker by the day

And trying to keep it under wraps

My heart is bleeding

And now I’m all alone

But my smile to them

Is now full blown

As I again keep it all inside

So like the ones

Who swear they love me

This person doesn’t detect

The false happiness and smile

Were all just a trick

So I just nod

With that smile on my face

And reply “I’m great.”
