Author’s Note:

Wait, don’t press the ‘next’ button yet! Please hear me out first! I have to things to tell you before you start reading “Wings of Power, Eyes of Heresy”, and they are:

NOTE 1: This document is the “Name Pronunciation and Origin Guide”, so it’s not a story chapter of any sort. It’s just to help you learn pronounce the names of my characters/places and it also tells you how I got the name… Well, for those who’re interested anyway. :P The names are sorted according to chapters and order of appearance and don’t worry – I’ll keep it very spoiler free! :D Oh, yeah, and this guide will be updated each time I update a new chapter (even when there’s no new name in that chapter), all right? Also, note that the pronunciation of the names in this story is mine, so some of them might be wrong. :P

NOTE 2: In case you forgot who a certain character is or how to pronounce a name, you can use CTRL plus F on your keyboard to open the ‘Find’ box and type the name there. Kinda useful, I’d say. :P

Well, that’s it. I hope that you like “Wings of Power, Eyes of Heresy”! :D

Prologue

-

Arvaqar Rioalqis (the one who wrote Arvaqar Rioalqis’ Chronicles): Ah… actually I didn’t modify Arvaqar Rioalqis (Ar-var-car Ree-oh-I’ll-keys) from anywhere, but as I created the name Arvaqar, the word ‘avatar’ keeps popping up in my mind… :P

Vasilis (the lead scientist of Project Wings): Vasilis (pronounced as ‘ver-see-lease’, the E in ‘ver’ is pronounced as the I in ‘girl’) is the alternate form of Basil, which means (in Greek or Latin, I can’t remember) royal or kingly. In religion, Basil is the name of a saint and leading scholar of early Christian Church. It’s because of the ‘leading scholar’ part that I took the name Vasilis for the lead scientist of Project Wings.

Odjn (the first test subject): The name Odjn is a variation of Odin and is pronounced the same way (‘owe-deen’). While the name means ‘one’ in Russian, Odin is the name of a god in the Norse mythology.

Dva (the second test subject): To tell you the truth, I seriously don’t know how to pronounce the name Dva (which gives the meaning ‘two’ in Russian). My best bet is ‘de-va’ (pronounce ‘de’ like ‘duh’ but don’t emphasize on it, and the A in ‘va’ is pronounced as the A in ‘art’), though I’m not really sure.

Tri (the third test subject): Well, Tri is pronounced as ‘three’! Can’t you guess? And yes, ‘three’ in Russian is ‘tri’. :P

Chetyr (the fourth test subject): I modified Chetyr from the original word Chetyre (okay, so it wasn’t much of a modification…), which means ‘four’ in Russian. Like Dva, I don’t know the actual way of pronouncing it, but the way I do it is ‘share-tar’. Sounds weird? But I like it! :D

Chapter 1, Keiron:Golden Eyes of Heresy

-

Keiron Everhardt (the twenty-year-old man with golden eyes): Keiron (pronounced as kay-ron, ‘kay’ as in ‘okay’ and the O in ‘ron’ is pronounced as the O in ‘gone’) is a variation of Kieran, which means ‘little and dark’. The reason why I chose this name is that Keiron has short dark brown hair, and that he’s the little/younger Everhardt brother. :P As for the surname Everhardt (pronounced as ‘ever-heart’), it’s actually a variation of Eberhard, a German name meaning ‘courageous as a boar’. Well, I don’t how courageous boars are, but it’s because of the ‘courageous’ part that I give him the surname. ;)

Tobi (the little puppy): Tobi (pronounced as ‘toe-bee’) is a Yoruba name meaning ‘great’. Also, it could be a short form of Tobias, which is a Hebrew name meaning “God is good”. Well, I put this name simply because I like it. :P

Farrell Everhardt (Keiron’s elder brother in his memory): Farrell (pronounced as fare-rell, the E in ‘rell’ is pronounced as the I in ‘girl’) is an Irish name meaning ‘heroic’. The reason why I chose this name is because… well, what I had in mind about Farrell is that he is ‘heroic’, not a ‘hero’ that save the world, but a ‘hero’ to his little brother because he is strong and protective. Get it? :P As for the surname, see ‘Keiron Everhardt’.

Flynn (Count Draclau’s advisor): Flynn (pronounced like ‘flint’ without the T) is an Irish name meaning “son of the red-haired man”. Well, we know that this guy is a red-haired man in the story. :P

Oakes (the village Keiron was in): Oakes (pronounced as ‘oak’ with an S) is an English name meaning “oak trees”. I bet you can tell why I use it, right? It’s because of the oak grove, duh! XD

Draclau (the Count):Draclau (pronounced as ‘drah-clau’, the A in ‘drah’ is pronounced as the A in ‘art’ and ‘clau’ is pronounced like ‘cloud’ without the D) is modified from Dracula, and I mean the historical figure Dracula Vlad Tepes, not the vampire. The reason why I took this name is because of this: Dracula Vlad Tepes is a religious person but is very unforgiving to anyone who opposes him. In the story, Draclau is a worshipper of Daeon (a so-called religious person) and deals with heretics. And actually, I took this name from Final Fantasy Tactics. XD

Daeon (the God of Desire): I modified the name Daeon (pronounced as ‘day-on’) from Dion, which is the short form of Dennis or Dionysius. While the name means ‘celebration’ in Greek, Dionysius is the god of wine in Greek mythology and Dennis is a follower of Dionysius. Then how did I come up with the ‘God of Desire’ part? Well, in order to win a war (and celebrate), you’d need the desire to win, right? :P
