Autumn Ghost

Leaf. Leaf.

Beneath the head, mine, resting carelessly on unexamined ground.

The river trails as your fingers,

Liquid to hover, yet not to touch.

Again.

Never had it crossed my mind,

That after the warmth of drink and depth of night

We should fall to sides,

You to yours, I to mine.

Waterfalls. Water falling… peace for here, to calm me now.

Steady me.

The poured cement I trod, catlike as I go.

Your hand would help me.

My heart shatters again.

The hearth has gone frigid, frosty in the early light of sunrise.

My autumn ghost.

My experience as you cross my path.

Leaves… Leaves… and then you leave.
