Stargazing

Tunnels to the inside

So clear, so beautiful

Can’t be marred by anything

Clouds flicker across

Running from the oncoming wave

The stars are devoured

A rain drop meanders from the black

Puddle jumping

Splashing through freedom

Beads of life

Scatter under me

The rain comes harder

The ground grows slippery

I falter and go down

Skinning my palms on the gravel

I try to get up

My feet unsteady

The current picks me up

And hurls me downstream

A rock collides with my head

The life flows out like blood

Eyes are swimming

Strength is gone

The emptiness is the only thing keeping me up

As it pulls me down to the bottom

The fragile spark

Is being drowned

So I roam as one dead

The river drowns out my screams

Unthinking and unfeeling

My grasp begins to fail

All warmth flees

As the flame sputters

The sun rises backwards

And I start to sink

My eyes are closing

Darkness sets in

When strong arms encircle me

And hold me tight

Gasping for breath

Listening to a heartbeat

Lying on the shore

Anchored firmly

“I’ll never let you go”

As the spring rain begins

Washing the dust off the windows

So I can see the sun
