An ice cube

Tiny block of frozen water

When I take it in my hands

It begins to melt away

As I watch it disappear

The water drips between my fingers

I feel something I’ve never felt before

And the tears start to come

The simplest thing in the world

Is clear to me right then

I know God in that moment

As the walls are washed away

Tears flow down my face

Running in rivers across my cheeks

Like the rain in summer

Washing away the dirt

Candles flicker up ahead

Tiny boats in a sea of light

Soft glow washes over everything

Illuminating the peace

Ribbons sway in the corner

Promises on the wind

Lives cover a wall

The mural of all of us

Such an outpouring of love

As I have never known

It’s tangible in the air

As we’re encircled by it

Tears mingle with tears

A running river of love

Beauty and grace

Love and peace

Lifted up by love

Made whole again

Life hasn’t been the same

Since I picked up that ice cube
