Red and Green

Red and green

Covering everything

Blinking, hanging

Flashing, spinning

Red as the stripes on a

Special candy cane

Or red as the glow

Of Rudolph’s nose

Green as the leaves of

A long string of garland

Or green as the needles

On a tall tall pine

Lights are flashing green

And red

At every corner light

And every corner store

Red as the berries on the ivy

Red as the petals on the poinsettias

Red as the wool used in scarves

Red as the frosting on the cookies

Green as the mistletoe in the doorway

Green as the towering pine trees

Green as the holly tied up in bunches

Green as the hidden grass below

The colors stand out

So brightly

So noticeable

Against the winter snow

Mixing and swirling in the

Light

Separating and secluding in the

Dark

Red

and

Green
