in a instant
( that any blink would have begged for )
the world shoved noiselessness in my ears

it was as if every flytrap-throat
then realized the depth of chasms and radio deaths
to be empty of waves

but

the most startling of silences
was not the sticking of gummy tongues nor
the drop of echoes from speech

but rather the finding
of weather without its regular response

of rain
