In the confines of my mind I breathe dead air,

In the delirium of the day I sigh frosty winds,

Through the eyes of a stranger I watch those around me.

I am not as I seem.

In the dying light of a setting sun I see a small child,

Sitting in the recesses of a dark room.

Trapped forever by the sadness and confusion of the screams in her head.

Why are all the good things only on television?

The child cries for happier times as the noise continues to grow,

And only in this state of dream can she comprehend the pain.

Locked away in a jail named society I live like a scavenger,

Feeding off the remains thrown to me from those with pity.

Born an outsider I’m so confused,

Aren’t we all meant to be equal?

Held only in the memory of those who sought to conquer,

Treasured only in the understanding they crawled away with.

I am not who I am.

The others stare with their lonely eyes,

Afraid and uncertain.

From time to time they offer a blunt reply

Bringing only hate.

Screaming to be left alone yet dieing to be saved

They tell me to open my heart, let them in, they want to help

How?

How can those around me understand the stories I have to tell?

Once, just once, I let someone in.

It was one time in millions I let you into my soul

All at once I fell in love but it was all wrong.

I wasn’t supposed to except so much from my only friend.

Her heart’s pounding in my ears, pulsing with life.

Her soul sparkles brightly through the depths of her eyes.

Her mouth so sweet, filled with love and longing.

I’m surely dieing.

Why must we be one and the same?

Why must society tear us apart when for so very long,

This is all I’ve needed?

Why must we be two of the same,

Two girls in the ever changing lanes of life.
