Rain

The rain is still falling

But the storm is gone

The thunder still echoes

But light strikes no more

Like the tell-tale signs

Of a forgotten remembrance

It all falls down to the earth

Please tell me why

Why the rain keeps coming

Long after the storm has passed

Why does the water flow over my windows

Tracing a quiet message of remorse

It speaks to me still of the mistakes that it made

As it has flowed across place and time

As it drips down the window pane

It cries out “Why me?”

As if the heavens will pull it back up

It speaks to me still

About half-broken dreams

And how it came to fall to the earth

And drips to the grass below

But another fulfills its place

And pours out another story of pain

And as the last of the rain drops fall

Like a half-hearted reverie

To the unforgiving ground below

I sit back in my seat

And think on these things

Truth told through this nature again

Perhaps then are we

Like the drops of this rain

Tearing our path down to earth

We soar through the skies

And crash in the mud

And lose ourselves deep in the mire

But if man can really change fate

And keep himself up in the heavens

Then why, why I implore you,

Why do we continue to fall?
