Depths
In the cold January night
He asked me for a chance.
He wanted with all his might
To start with me a sweet romance.
So for months we were together,
Exploring the depths of our souls.
Trying to find love light as a feather,
And if we could make ourselves whole.
But soon things began to crumble.
I soon saw what came of this amour.
Everything in my life humble
Was captured, crushed, and turned no more.
I finally felt my heart fall
And I’ve learned that when I hear them say
That famous phrase “Love conquers all,”
It’s not necessarily in a good way.
The heat of August soon arrived.
I sat out on the front step
And from my mind tried to derive
What I expected in my depths.
I saw a nice car pull up to the curb
And saw a boy climb out.
I hoped my heart he would not disturb
And leave with any doubt.
When he smiled I found I followed
And when he spoke I listened.
I knew I’d soon begin the road,
The road in which my love was christened.
Now I can safely turn to him,
He saved me from certain death.
It wasn’t for his own free whim,
That he took away my breath.
