A.N: Heya, this is something I put together after being totally bored, doing some tedious math’s homework. Sorry this chapter’s too short, I hate rambling…on and on…on and on…on and on… :) I hope you like it!

Avoiding the Moonlight

Prologue

This isn’t me he thought as he looked at his reflection in the mirror. He peered down at his hands; they weren’t his. There was only one place he had seen these hands…on a creature he was now too afraid to speak of. This ISN’T me he thought again. The reflection snarled back at him. It had taken control of his body and was now about to haunt his moonlit hours for the rest of his life…

Today, was the day that he took a break from the world, but he didn’t realize that soon was the night that the world would pounce on him…

Chapter 1 – The end of his world

Callum arrived at the small chalet his mother had owned. He parked the car on a small patch of gravel on the dusty driveway and looked up at the small cabin before him. There wasn’t really much to it; just a wooden hut. But it was the scenery that struck him like a dagger. It was beautiful.

A delicate layer of clouds circled a vividly orange setting sun. The light sparkled on the lake to the east behind him and cast fiery smears of orange on the hills. The forest to the south was black. Not even a slither of orange to brighten up the dark, looming shadows cast by the thick overgrowth. It was a haunting sight.

Callum cast his eyes back to his Black Vauxall Vectra and remembered that Stella was still sitting patiently in the back seat. He turned his back on the scenery and ran to let her out of the car. She stared at him through the dim glass as he opened the door for her. She looked up and jumped out, the gravel crunching under her paws. She barked and trotted to his feet.

Stella was Callum’s dog and best friend. The Border collie was playful and at times a little too active. She eyed the woods and beckoned her owner to take her for a walk.

Callum ignored her.

It was a frosty evening and the joyous glow of the setting sun was fading rapidly. The wind howled through the woods. Callum looked over at the black trees and saw them unmoving. The howling sent numerous shivers down his spine but he carried on, eager to reach the warmth of the indoors. The unearthly howl died down into a devilish hiss.

The first thing Callum did, when he first stepped into the chalet, was to drop his luggage on the door step and light a fire in the sooty fire place grate. He sat facing the fire, the other end of the room and was relaxing a little as the welcome heat spread through his cold, tired body. After hours of driving through twisted mountain roads, he could finally feel the relief of the country.

Stella lay down next to Callum as he hugged a mug of coffee he had recently prepared. The city life was no place for a man and his dog. No lakes, beautiful sunsets, no forests. No howling…and none of them

Two-hundred metres away, an albino was looking at the darkening sky from his kitchen window. The dim moonlight reflected menacingly off his glowing red eyes. He frowned at the sky. A faint gibbous moon shrouded in swirling clouds.

A few more nights he thought to himself and I’ve got another task on my hands…

A.N: Thanks for reading and I hoped you liked it! Sorry it’s so short; I’m just setting the scene. Please review if you have any comments of tips, or stuff like that.

Thanks again!
