Do Something

I am a firm believer in the idea that who you are as a teenager and where you are in the social hierarchy of destruction, most commonly known as high school, will have a huge deciding factor over what you will become in life.

Imagine your name was Mickey and you had a dog named Skip. I should inform you now that Skip has no actual reason to be in this story but I just felt like putting him in there. Anyways, your name is Mickey and all your life you’ve been second best to a kid named Peter. Peter is pretty much a good guy. He’s handsome and smart with impeccable manners; the type of guy that’s friends with everyone. Peter is so nice that on som occasions you forget why you hate him. Then it all comes back to you that he is better than you and you can’t stand it.

When you get an A he gets an A plus; you get the girl and Peter, well Peter gets her hot older sister. There’s no sense in competing with him so you stop. After high school Pete gets a scholarship to Dartmouth and last you heard he was on his way to becoming the next Bill Gates after starting a computer company with a couple of his buddies. Meanwhile you ended up staying in New Jersey and going to some local college. You are currently employed at a Temp Agency.

Now there is nothing wrong with going to a local college and there is absolutely nothing wrong with working in a Temp Agency. What makes this a sad example is the fact that Mickey gave up. He quit because he was too scared to stay in the game. It wouldn’t have mattered if he continued to be second best to Peter as long as he was willing to try and beat him. If he couldn’t compete in school he would never be willing to achieve his goals and succeed in life.

That was just one example but not all stories are as cut and dry as the one I just gave. But basically my whole point for writing this essay was to say this. We all know that there are followers and there are leaders; there are those who fight to win and then there are those who lie down and take it. I urge you to take this into consideration and look within yourselves. Please don’t be one of those people who can’t think for themselves or give up because something seems hard. The only way to succeed in life is to never give up no matter who tells you that you’re crazy and will never make. Only you can decide what’s right for you and only you can make things happen. Things will change when you are ready to make stuff happen.

Remember that.
