August Second
The morning of August second dawned,
The starry night was gone.
He had not slept one little bit
Nor she, in a nervous fit.
The day arrived early and bright,
The sun seemed so polite.
She said, "This is the perfect day
And I cannot delay."
She drove as quickly as she could,
Her spirits were so good.
She reached the church at long last.
And ran inside so fast.
Her day went by quickly,
Her heart so light and free.
She felt the ones around her
Turn the day into a blur.
The dress came on as white as snow
With a train that freely flowed.
They fixed a veil upon her brow
And said, "You're ready now."
As she gazed into the mirror
It could not be clearer.
That of all the days from this year,
This one she would hold dear.
So the music began to play
And all across the way,
Friends and family came to see
And a part of this to be.
A little girl came down the aisle,
Across her face a smile.
She carried with her many a flower,
The dullness to devour.
The wedding was quite beautiful
And everyone was indulged.
But no one could wait too long
To see the two that did belong.
As she emerged from her spot,
She wondered if she should not.
But then she looked up at the alter
And in her decision did not falter.
For there he stood in suit so black
And face so handsome and intact.
The smile upon his face
Contained happiness and grace.
She arrived on her father's arm
And gazed at him with charm.
They took their place before the priest
Not frightened in the least.
"May you be blessed," he was led to say,
"Until your dying day."
He had them light a candle
On how life should be handled.
Then he had the two young hearts
Say, "Till death do us part."
He slipped the ring onto her finger
And knew that he would linger.
Then he pulled up her veil
Knowing he would not fail.
The priest said, quite full of pride,
"You may kiss the bride."
