Craning upwards towards that
Flickering streetlight
Taunting me softly in
The darkness of early morn

Dim and bright laughter
Erratic blinking and
Unending inconsistency
Mocking me always

A glint of knowing
Lurking beneath all comprehension
Winking as an electric
Out of order star

Failing to light daybreak
Fading darkness unlit
It knows something
I don't know

Pass me by beneath
This broken light
In an instance all flickering
Stops.

Be still..
Hold your breath.

Step out from beneath
Unwavering lamp light
It begins
To flicker.

On and off.
On and off.

It knows something
I don't know.
