I was looking for a shoe and came across a wooden chest.

It was nestled under my bed, bearing a heart; love’s universal crest.

I blew of the collected dust and opened the lid with care.

I searched through the letters gently so they wouldn’t tear.

I stared at each picture, my memories, of those years.

I read each letter, stained with lipstick kisses and salty tears.

As I cleaned out the chest, a sliver of light caught my eye.

I carefully picked up the glistening object and started to cry.

It was the locket you gave me the day you disappeared.

I ran my finger over the cool silver and a pain in my heart seared.

I opened the locket to see the picture of me having a laugh.

I read the message engraved inside and my heart tore in half.

I felt a shiver run through my bones and into my pores.

This is my heart,” you said “Keep it close to yours.”

I was looking for a shoe and came across a wooden chest.

I opened it and found a love once greater than the rest.
