There's a pit along the road

And I know I'll stumble into it

We both do.

But I don't stop walking

And you take my hand

So we fall in together

And it simply doesn't

Seem so steep

Anymore.

Sometimes, I walk faster

So I fall in alone

I don't want you to know

How dark a pit can get.

And sometimes, I go

Out of my way

To make sure you never will.

You say you don't mind

Pits are a part of us

Just like those highs

And silver-lined clouds.

But I'm scared

That if we fall in together

We'll never get out.
