go ahead, I’m waiting

by spootasia tomoe

--

--

you want to fire me

for being something different than you?

because my skin is a different color

or perhaps my rhetoric is all off?

go ahead

but

I do wonder

what they’re going to fire you for

when they realize you’re different, too

because we’re all humans here

not clones

which is supposed to be a good thing

about our species, you see

because if we weren’t all creatures

that strove and fought

for different needs, different reasons

who built up cultures

on different thoughts and priorities

then everything we’ve come to take for granted

like that Indian restaurant you’re so fond of

would all collapse,

you see,

if we were all the same people

not to mention

we’d have a HORRID time

with in-breeding.
