“Man you’ll read anything.”

“What?” Darren questioned lifting his head from the old dusty year book. Towered before him was one of the schools football players. “D-Do I know you?” He inquired rubbing his eye.

“I’m the best Football player in the school, and I sit behind you in math class. Man you really need to pay more attention.” He nearly sneered and plopped down beside him, knocking over a stack of books. “Lord, are these all school year books?”

“Since 1922.” He nodded going back to the year book he was currently reading. “Did you need something?”

“Ya well, ya know that English paper we all have to do?”

Leave me alone! His mind growled, but he nodded. “ If you’re going to ask me to do your homework, you can just screw off.” He mumbled.

“Ya know what-“

“If you don’t leave now, I’ll tell his ‘star player’ is on the juice.” He threatened glancing up from the book he was reading. The jocks eyes flashed for a moment before storming out of the library.

Darren focused on his book again, he had stared from the old cracked leather year book of 1922 and was nearly at the end. This book was dated 4 years before he started attending Prince High. HE skimmed through the pages and stooped at the chapter where Mrs. Leners English had written a series of poems. He skipped most of them, the ones written about teenage life, love and tragedy but what else did he expect to find.

When you saw me,

You didn’t see

Who I was

You saw

Who I’m supposed to be

His fingers trailed over glossy black letters, and slide down to the author’s name. Liseli Alton. He flipped to the back of the book to the student pictures, Above her name ‘not available’ was typed in bright red letters. He stared for a moment, then slammed the book and reached for the next year’s addition. Again there was no picture. In fact, she hadn’t had one picture taken of her over the four years she attended, except for one faded blurry black and white photo of her in the library. However it was just the back of her head.

That’s when it all started.
