Hey! New story for you guys! I will be updating all my other stories very very soon! So please bare with me, if I don’t write the first chapter to my new stories soon, I swear I’m going to explode. Here’s chapter 1. Enjoy:
I stared rather blankly at the whiteness of the wall in front of me as the women who ran the orphanage continued to yell at me about God knows what. I had tuned her out five minutes ago.
I was daydreaming about my eighteenth birthday, it was coming up soon. Afterward I could leave this hellhole that was considered a nice orphanage. And live on my own. Which had been my dream since I had lost my parents in a horrible car accident at the age of four.
“Are you listening Lily?” Mrs. Kopeck glared at me over her thick glasses that made her very much resemble a bug
“Yes.” I stated still staring intently at the wall
“Then what did I just say then, hmm?” she gave me a rather angry look. Telling me with her eyes that she very well knew that I had not been paying attention.
“Um…” I stuttered, caught.
“Uh-huh, that’s what I though. Now pay attention this is important.” the woman pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose with a rather fat finger before continuing.
“Now, I am well aware of your eighteenth birthday Lily… I know that you are looking forward to leaving.”
“Ya think? Come on Mrs. Kopeck! I need to leave here. I need to find a place of my own. I have enough money to settle for a one bedroom apartment downtown.”
“That’s the thing Lily! I was just talking about that. There have been rumors of strange things going on after dark…” she trailed off obviously expecting me to come to some sort of conclusion.
I sighed, ”What kind of ‘strange things’?” I asked. “Strange things always happen in the city.”
“Yea, that might be the case. But there have been plenty of reports of people disappearing and even more of people who have been found drained of all their blood.” Mrs. Kopeck looked at me, expectantly, obviously watching for a reaction. She got none.
“Mrs. Kopeck, are you actually suggesting that vampires, actually exist?” I snorted at the thought “that’s crazy, completely ridiculous.”
“Lily…”
“I’m sorry Mrs. Kopeck, but I have a hard time picturing vampires in the cities… I mean it’s just too odd. Vampires don’t exist. Even if they did, they wouldn’t be stupid enough to continue to kill humans in the same area. They would know that we would soon catch on to what was happening…” I sent her a knowing look. Before glancing out the window.
“I guess I can’t pursue you can I?”
“No, Mrs. Kopeck. I’m afraid not I’m leaving. I want to live on my own. Living here is all cramped. Besides if I leave than you’ll have more room for more kids.”
She sighed reluctantly, “Very well, I’ll make the arrangements.” she said before she left the room heading to the office down the hall.
I sighed as I stepped into my one bedroom apartment. After a long hard day of classes and then a double shift at the restaurant, I was about ready to collapse from exhaustion. I just had to say “yes” to Terri when she was unable to work her shift and of course I not only agreed to take over but also being stupid didn’t even bother to ask for a reason! Well, it was over now nothing I could do about it now. But now I would never do that again it was far too draining.
I walked into the living room and turned on the television. Nothing but the news was on at this time of night. I listened as I wandered into my bedroom and changed into my pajamas. I had my t-shirt halfway over my head when I heard a strange noise from outside. Curious, I went to the window to investigate but found nothing but blackness. They should seriously consider getting lights out here so we can actually see outside our windows at night. I shrugged it off as just an owl or something fluttering by.
I continued changing deftly listening to the television in the other room, nothing of too big of concern. Just some bank robberies and a car wreck but they were both too far away to be much of a concern to me.
Once I was changed I headed back into the living room to watch the last ten or so minutes of the news before calling it a night. Luckily I had one class tomorrow and it wasn’t until noon.
I was just starting to doze off when I jerked awake to the next story:
“This just in, there has been another body of a young man found, and just like the others it is drained of all its blood. A Mrs. Margaret Kopeck found the body not too far from the West Lane Apartment Homes around 10:30 tonight. This is not the first time this has occurred in the same area. Authorities have said that over the past several weeks three more bodies all males were discovered in the same area. Authorities have not released the name of the unfortunate man. But we do know that he was on his way to visit his girlfriend who lives in the apartment complex not too far away. We will bring you more information as it comes to us.”
My eyes were practically glued to the screen as the newscaster came back after several frightening images of the back of the shopping center only a mile from where I lived. That was the third time since I had moved out of the orphanage that a body had been found in that particular area… same way too drained of all their blood. It was all a little unnerving for me. But no big deal right? Just because they were killed the same way doesn’t mean that they’re at all connected or that they have anything to do with me.
“No” I shook her head firmly. “There is a logical explanation for this. I know there is. Vampires don’t exist. Stop scaring yourself Lily.” I scolded myself. “It’s just your imagination. Mrs. Kopeck was just scaring you. Trying to get you to stay. That’s all. Evil Mrs. Kopeck didn’t want you to leave poor old woman. She needed my help to run the orphanage. She was getting far too old to run it on her own. Yea, that’s it. I’m going to have a nice talk to her tomorrow about scaring the shit out of me.” I resolved before turning off the television and the lights and heading to bed.
Well, what do you think? Yea I know there’s a lot of foreshadowing, but I couldn’t help it! You guys should know what’s going to happen, don’t you? Well, next chapter will be up soon (I hope) but until then, see ya and review!
