Here.

It’s everywhere I stand,

Wherever I am.

And everywhere you’re not.

You travel miles

To avoid me.

Jump to the clouds,

Swim the oceans,

Climb over mountains,

Through deserts and jungles,

To avoid me.

And I try not to notice,

I try to ignore

The ache in my heart

When I see your form

Outlined by the setting sun,

Trying, still, to avoid me.

I try not to notice

When I hear your sneeze

Atop a mountain.

I pretend I don’t care

When I see you avoid my gaze

In a desert.

And I brush it aside

When you avoid my boat

During the storm at sea.

I pretend I don’t care.

And I don’t.

I know you don’t mean to do it.

It’s just purely coincidence

That you’re always,

Always,

Everywhere but here.
