Prelude:

It’s funny how just one look can change everything.

One moment, one glance, one smile, one laugh; and everything turns upside down, inside out, and you fall into utter chaos.

I thought I was over him. I thought he was gone. I thought I had moved on. I thought I had everything under control.

It makes you laugh when you think of just how wrong you can be sometimes.

The order that I worked so hard to create, the walls that I toiled so long to build: everything came falling down. I tried so hard to forget him. Those bittersweet memories, tinged with sweetness yet sorrow- I tried to put it all behind. Yet the face that had lighted up with a smile every time he had seen me, the voice that had gently whispered my name as he caressed my cheek, and all the times and experiences that we had went through together: they continued to resurface despite the numerous times I tried to forget and move on.

That one millisecond in time, just the same as all the other ones swishing around in the hour glass,

That one insignificant grain of sand swirling among the million others stranded on the beach,

That one crumb of dust, lying lost on the ground, amid all the other particles carelessly tossed onto the floor.

It was just like that.

With one small ‘hey’, a quick smile, and the sound of my name on his lips, it all came rushing back. Just like the first time he caught me…he caught me again.

Just like that.

They should condemn all people who look good in blue shirts and faded jeans.

The poise that I had been blessed with for the past few months completely disappeared when he showed up.

Damn him.

Cameron Werner.
