The Moment of Truth

In this futile collapse of silent earth my knees give way

The sky bleeds into streaks of reds and grey

Waiting for it all to come crashing down upon me

Running isn’t an option anymore so just let it be

In these last few minutes of reconciliation

Our people now stand united in a diverse nation

We burn our flags and bury our integrity

Released from the corporate hold, we are now set free

An anthem of screeching tires and roaring sirens fills the airwaves

All notions of government have been brought to early graves

Everything falls apart upon the strike of disaster

Drink your night away, because this time there will be no morning after

Who would have thought that the heavens would descend upon us?

And that our own stupidity would be one of the main causes?

Cherish your loved ones and hold them in embrace

The sun sets for the last time and the light fades from my face

Hearts beating violently against every ribcage

For all men are merely players and the world is a stage

A fury of fire rains over all humanity

Everyone is screaming at such a high intensity

That the sounds have come to mean nothing to me

The flames circle around and entrance

Taking with them all belief in luck and chance

The first flood has ended and the survivors can take a breath

Eeriness lurks in the breeze as we all wait for what comes next

Our brothers have fallen before us and plunged into death

Not one word is uttered and the air grows thick

Each body is shaking and stomachs turn sick

A bead of sweat dances until it hits the grass

That tiny impact seemed to set off the next blast

The oceans overturned and gathered to form a towering sight

Everything ever known to the world was washed away that one graceless night

Not one building or monument remained

With nothing to show for, how much have we really gained?
