Leyene

It was a shock when my father told me I was to be married. It would be to a man I have never met. Was I (or rather am I ready for this? I confess I’m scared and saddened. One always dreams of marrying for true love.

What is his problem? I am a grown man! Twenty and one years of age! My father (having finally decided to let me know) just informed me that I am to be married! What was he thinking?

Unfortunately it is true that he can withdraw much of my inheritance….so I will be married to a little brat (barely 17 years old) whom I have never met!

I am writing this a few hours later and I am much calmer now. I have reconciled myself –well mostly-to the fact that this marriage will take place, unless I want to be a pauper the rest of my life! The only thing to do is accept it, meet the young child on Thursday and try to make the best of it. If she is to be my bride I had better go in looking for her better atributes and not her faults. My father is a man with sense (though I should have liked to have chosen whom I would marry) he would not have my affianced to a strumpet or a women with the temper or patience of a five year old.

Now all that is left to do is meet my bride. The wedding is set for a year and three months from today.
