Waiting As If It Was Yesterday

You were sitting there, looking away,
sipping wine from your champagne,
waiting as if it was yesterday.

Trying not to be just another cliché
and hiding every piece of your pain,
you were sitting there, looking away.

With your thoughts in disarray
along with your clothes and that stain,
waiting as if it was yesterday.

Your memories were out on display
but you couldn't help feeling plain,
you were sitting there, looking away.

Even though it was always today,
you continued through the mundane,
waiting as if it was yesterday.

And I stepped towards the café,
but even dreams never remain,
you weren't sitting there, looking away,
waiting as if it was yesterday.

Author's Note: Another assignment for poetry. This time it is a villanelle but I didn't follow the traditional villanelle because of line eighteen. Tell me what you think.
