The ENTER Score
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I Myspace-d,
Eyes tired and bleary,
Spamming comments on the page of the guy that I adore
As I caps-locked, fingers tapping, suddenly there came a rapping,
Rapping at my bedroom door
As loud as one vi'lently clapping, rapping at my bedroom door
'twas my mother, awake from napping, rapping at my bedroom door
"Go to sleep now, I implore."
--
And throughout the year's progression, my efforts seemed to lessen,
And I must make this confession: I found my classes quite a bore
So that my notes were nonexistent and my UG's quite consistent,
Though I still remained insistent that I'd ace year 12 for sure.
Oh, how certain I had been that I would ace year 12 for sure,
"Need to study? Gee, what for?"
--
Then the nature of the letter on that bleak and sad December
chilled me - filled me with a sadness I had never felt before.
As my parents stood observing, there came a thought unnerving.
That, the fact is, I'm deserving of that shoddy ENTER score
Truthfully, I am deserving of that shoddy ENTER score.
Really should have studied more.
Just for clarification, an ENTER score is a final score based on a student's exam marks and assessments throughout their final year of high school, which is used as a score for entrance into tertiary education. The students are ranked against all of the other students in Victoria and blah, blah. :)
UG's just mean 'ungraded' - either because the work hadn't been handed in, or because the mark was so shocking that the teacher could simply not bring themselves to grade it haha.
I wrote this last year (under Anonymous) for the school magazine that I co-edited . (We were in dire need of submissions.)
