Shine On, Soldiers
I sit on a bench,
Looking at the graves.
My heart pounds heavily,
As the sky turns to dull grays.
My friends, once so fearless,
Are now so old and rotten.
The days of the past, the easy ways (though at war),
Will soon be forgotten.
A loud sound shakes the earth,
Sending smoke to my eyes.
Every battle, every new mission,
Without you all, it makes me want to cry.
The battles were horrid,
The trenches even worse.
But as I go on to another battle,
I feel I have no self-worth.
I feel so guilty,
Still on a constant war.
Though you are in a better place,
I couldn't wish for you to be here more.
Skies were gray,
I cried for you, and tears fell.
But at the end of the day,
Your spirits shine on, I can tell.
