ONE LAST GOODBYE

The fiery flames take you in,
Demolishing your entire being,
I don’t blink, I don’t move,
As I watch you turn to ashes,

The gates are closed,
You have gone now,
I turn my back,
To move forward,

I’ve only just begun,
But still I turn to look,
Maybe, just maybe,
That wasn’t you at all.

You’ll be right there,
Waiting for me,
But what satire that is,
I hear it laughing at me,
For I know you’re gone,
I heard them call your name.

I waved you off,
Just like I was supposed to,
And while my tears never flowed freely,
My heart ached tremendously

I wanted to say goodbye,
I wanted you to know,
That night I meant to say it
But it never came out so,
Hoping that you’re listening,
Praying that you know,
That I love you,
Very much so.

This poem is dedicated to my late Grandma.
