Your Girl

They’re your friends, not mine.

They don’t talk to me anymore.

You only have eyes for me,

But they only have eyes for you.

I’m silent in a crowd,

Just an ornament on your arm:

I’m your girl now.

-

I feel like a fancy piece of art,

Trapped behind glass and a frame.

You show me off, that’s all you do.

I’m not included when you talk.

I’m that lonely mermaid at your great ship’s bow;

Eroded by the waves;

I’m your girl now.

-

I’m trapped because I love you,

And I know you love me

More than anything on this earth.

But you don’t notice what’s happening.

You say fate must have brought us together, and I wonder how

Fate could be so cruel, so kind:

I’m your girl now.

-

My thoughts are my own,

But around you they come out all wrong.

Everyone thinks I’m stupid-

I’m not-

They see me as that thing who’s dumb out loud...

And you laugh with them...

I’m your girl now.

-

You don’t know what you’re doing to me,

Do you?

You don’t even have a clue,

How much it hurts when you laugh.

Don’t worry about me leaving; I swear I’ll never;

I’ll love you for life:

I’m your girl, forever.
