Author's Note: I have absolutely no idea where this came from, It was just one of those ideas that just wouldn't go away. This is intended as a one shot unless I get a LOT of reviews.

The place was dimly lit and packed. It was the place of the writing elite of all genres, where old members welcomed new. Once you were in, you were set for life..

This was the International Writers Association… and her dream.

When she heard her name called, Rachel Starlight’s heart nearly stopped. She stood and walked to the stage to accept her award, and with it, her membership.

Amidst her unending joy, there was a pang of sorrow, for the one person that had mattered the most to her wasn’t there…

Rachel would be the first to admit that it was her own fault, but still, that was eleven years ago!

She should have remembered that Tammy had a long memory. Accepting her award, Rachel heaved an inward sigh of regret for what was lost before heading back to her seat.

“Nadia Rose, romance author.”

Frowning, Rachel turned her attention back to the stage. She’d never heard of that author before, she must be good though, Rachel made a mental note to do the research…

However, when she got a good look at this person’s face, every thought except for one flew from her mind:

Tammy!

Numb with shock, Rachel could do nothing but stare as her old friend and lover smoothly drove her wheelchair across the stage to accept her own award. Tammy looked serene as she quietly thanked the spokesperson before descending from the stage.

It didn’t escape Rachel’s notice that Tammy only looked straight ahead and ignored what was going on around her.

The rest of the ceremony was a blur, all Rachel could do was keep her seat, her eyes kept wandering to Tammy though as her mind crowded with questions.

Finally it was all over, and there was going to be a party for all the new members. Originally, Rachel hadn’t intended on going but now…

There wasn’t a choice, Rachel had to know how this had happened.
