Organising
“So, how are we going to do this?” Adele asked as her eyes roamed down the list in front of her. “It’s going to be a big rush to finish in time.”
Her companion had his back turned, working on a drawing that was long overdue for a class. He didn’t turn or look up as she spoke, just grumbled a reply.
“It always is.” He stated; his voice just above a whisper, seeming to be indifferent. His hand was moving across the page vigorously, pressing down hard onto the paper.
“Well,” Adele continued. “I can buy the decorations tomorrow, but I wouldn’t have time to book the D.J…Wait, do we even know one we can hire? I mean, this is for their anniversary, they’ll be wanting romantic music.”
“I guess.” The boy muttered, nosily scribbling something out.
“I guess I could ask Lidea about it, but I said we’d take care of this.” She sighed, biting her lip and looking down the list again. “We won’t have any time to sleep!”
“You won’t.” Was all the boy said, ripping his paper as he attacked it hard with a rubber.
“I can’t expect your help, you never do anything.” Adele sighed, rolling her eyes. “Okay I’ll do the decorations and find a D.J. the least you can do is the invitations. I am doing everything else.”
The boy sighed and stared down at his ripped paper. Once again he picked up his pencil, drew a small stick figure girl and stabbed the pencil thought its head. The lead broke on the table beneath. He carefully began sharpening it.
“Uh huh.” He contributed.
“Good.” Adele beamed, moving across the room and swiping the pencil from his hand. “I’ll cross it off then, so you can’t back out.” She hummed slightly as she scribbled on the list. The boy just rolled his eyes, his hands balling into fists.
“Oh no!” Adele suddenly screamed, making him jump. “Who’s going to do the speech?” She gazed over at him meaningfully, he wouldn’t meet her gaze.
“Joey will. It’s his sister.” He pointed out, ignoring her sigh. He placed on fist to his head, as though contemplating whether he could knock himself out.
“Joey is an idiot with speeches! It has to be us…maybe we can do it together! Like a song!”
This made him turn for the first time, a bewildered look of horror on his face.
“No way.”
“Yes way! It will be romantic, just what we need!” She was humming again. She’d already made up her mind.
“No way.” The boy repeated, but she didn’t hear. He gritted his teeth, stood up and grabbed his shoes. “No way.”
“I’ll start it off, naturally, make a joke or two, then we can…hey, where are you going?” She demanded.
“…To get the invitations.” He muttered before slamming the door shut. Adele blinked slightly, tilting her head to one side.
“What’s his problem?” She wondered aloud. The empty house didn’t answer.
