Through the Winter

It's hard to see daylight
Through clouds such as these.
I watch the happiness fade
As the light runs from dusk,
And all these blues set in
With no sight of evening's star.
I've already cried so much,
But the tears won't go away.
Tears can't make wrongs right.
Tears can't bring them back.
I can't bring them back.
I can't give life to the dead.
Katie's mom in September,
JJ's dad in December;
Who can live forever?
Who can cheat mortality its due?

I can't go on like this.
Only a tiny light of hope guides me:
The night only preceeds the day,
The sun will melt the snow,
And spring will come once again.

Lord, I've fallen so far.
I can only go up from here.
